Carw Art

Stephen Inkpen

As an artist who was born, lives and works in Wales I am fortunate to be surrounded by an ever changing, infinitely diverse and fascinating landscape. Within this landscape my work focuses upon the crumbling monuments of the past, as well as the kaleidoscopic sprawl of modern urbanisation, and sets them against the inexorable flow of returning nature. From hills and mountains which roll with the speed of a geological ocean, to the surging seas around, this land of legends is imbued with a spirit all of its own.

With such a rich contrast of ever shifting landscapes on my doorstep, my world becomes vibrant and dynamic as it constantly evolves before my eyes. I express this vibrancy through a combination of bold and subtle brush strokes together with a unique colour pallet.

My use of colour is derived from a condition known as ‘Synaesthesia’. This condition enables me to associate a building, a person or an entire landscape with a particular colour. This individualistic colour perception is the catalyst and driving force behind my work.

I currently work out of a studio in Pontypridd, South Wales
